The Magnifica Plus suits households where more than one person wants their own drink saved and a screen to find it on. The Magnifica Evo makes the same espresso and the same LatteCrema milk for around $400 less and suits anyone who drinks one or two of the same coffees every day.

Both are 24cm-wide De'Longhi automatics with a 13-setting grinder, a 1.8-litre tank, a 15-bar thermoblock and the LatteCrema Hot carafe. The Plus swaps the Evo's touch icons for a colour touchscreen and expands the drinks list.

De'Longhi Magnifica Evo

De'Longhi Magnifica Evo

Seven one-touch drinks on colour icons: espresso, coffee, doppio+, cappuccino, hot milk, MyLatte and long. LatteCrema Hot carafe with one-touch cleaning. Owners rate it 4.4 from 250 reviews at The Good Guys, where it is regularly $200 under De'Longhi's own price.

No screen, no user profiles, and a smaller recipe list.

What We Like:

  • Same coffee and milk system as the Plus
  • Often heavily discounted
  • Hundreds of reviews

What We Don't Like:

  • No profiles or saved drinks

De'Longhi Magnifica Plus

De'Longhi Magnifica Plus

A 3.5-inch colour TFT touchscreen replaces the icons. Coffee recipes grow to americano, coffee, doppio+, espresso and long; milk recipes to cappuccino, cappuccino+, cappuccino mix, latte macchiato and hot milk. Same grinder, tank, hopper and LatteCrema carafe. Owners rate it 4.8 from more than 90 reviews at The Good Guys, a full step above the Evo.

It uses the same 15-bar thermoblock, so espresso quality doesn't move; the money buys the interface.

What We Like:

  • Touchscreen with recipe pictures
  • Wider drinks menu
  • Highest owner rating of the pair

What We Don't Like:

  • Same espresso as the Evo for $400 more

What actually differs

Screen. The Plus shows drinks with pictures and adjusts strength, length and milk on screen. The Evo adjusts the same things with icon presses that owners find less obvious. If someone in the house is not the person who read the manual, the screen matters.

Recipes. Americano, latte macchiato and cappuccino+ are Plus-only presets. On the Evo you can approximate them by running coffee and milk separately.

Rating gap. 4.8 against 4.4 with the same coffee system suggests the interface is what owners are scoring. It is the strongest argument for the Plus.

Price. The Good Guys often has the Evo under $800 and the Plus around $1,200. That gap buys the screen and nothing in the cup.

For profiles, more grind settings and a bigger carafe, the next step is the Rivelia, which is the same money as the Plus at The Good Guys.

FAQs

Is the Magnifica Plus quieter than the Evo?

No. Same grinder and pump. De'Longhi's quieter models start with the Eletta Ultra.

Can the Magnifica Evo save custom drinks?

It remembers your last strength and length per recipe, but has no named user profiles. The Plus doesn't have profiles either; that starts with the Rivelia.

Which is easier to clean?

Identical. Same removable brew unit, same dishwasher-safe LatteCrema carafe, same one-touch carafe rinse.
