The Essenza Mini suits anyone who wants the cheapest, smallest Nespresso: under $160, 8.4cm wide, 2.3kg. The CitiZ suits a household: a 1-litre tank and more than 1,000 owner reviews behind it. The Pixie sits between and is usually sold bundled with an Aeroccino frother, which is the reason to pick it.

Nespresso Pixie
A 1-litre tank in an 11cm-wide body with a bin for 11 capsules and an energy-saving mode. At The Good Guys it comes bundled with an Aeroccino 3 milk frother for around $250, which is the same money as a CitiZ on its own. Owners rate the bundle 4.8 from about 40 reviews.
Fewer reviews than the other two, and the lever and drip tray are more compact than the CitiZ's.

Nespresso CitiZ
The classic: 1-litre tank, 13cm wide, 3.3kg, a 10-capsule bin and a flow-stop function for consistent volumes. The CitiZ & Milk version adds a built-in Aeroccino for around $100 more and has more than 900 reviews of its own at 4.6.
It is the widest of the three, and the solo version has no frother.

What actually differs
Tank. 600ml against a litre. For one person the Essenza Mini is fine; for two or more, the litre tank on the Pixie or CitiZ saves a refill a day.
Width. 8.4, 11 and 13cm. All three fit nearly anywhere, but the Essenza Mini fits places nothing else does.
Milk. Only the Pixie bundle includes a frother at this price. The CitiZ & Milk builds one in for about $100 more than the solo CitiZ.
